Arduino releases GIGA R1 singleboard with WiFi and Mega and Due form factor
Arduino has released a new singleboard. It has the same form factor as the existing Mega and Due boards, but the GIGA R1 has WiFi and a more powerful CPU. The device will cost 68.70.
The Italian manufacturer say that the GIGA R1 WiFi is the company’s most powerful single-board computer to date. The device has the same form factor as the existing Mega and Due boards the company also makes, with 76 gpio pins. Of these, 12 are analog, 12 pwm, 4 are for serial ports, 3 are I2Cs, 2 are for SPI and there is a CAN FD and a sai pin on the board.
The GIGA R1 has a STM32H7 Arm CPU with two cores. The 32bit Cortex M7 has a clock speed of 480MHz and the Cortex M4 has a speed of 240MHz. According to Arduino, this is intended so that the board can run two Arduino apps at the same time. It should also be possible to run an Arduino app and a MicroPython program in this way, writes Arduino.
Also new is that the GIGA R1 has a Murata 1DX module for 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi of up to 65Mbit/s and for Bluetooth Low Energy. The device also has a 3.5mm connection, 2MB of flash storage and 1MB of Sdram memory and a USB-C connection for a power supply of up to 24V. There is also a USB-C connector on the board.
The device is sold in Europe for 68.70 euros. The GIGA R1 is for sale immediately in Arduino’s store.
