Google may be planning to integrate its Imagen-AI tool, which can convert text into images, into the Gboard keyboard. 9to5Google discovered this in the apk of the app. However, the development of the function does not appear to be far advanced.

9to5Google found references to an “Imagen Keyboard” in the code of the latest beta version of keyboard app Gboard. It is according to the site the intention is that this functionality should appear under the ‘shortcuts’, which also includes the functions One hand, Translate and Edit text. It is not yet clear what the function will look like and how it will work exactly. Since the integration is still in its early stages of development, according to 9to5Google, it will likely be a while before it is released.

Imagen was unveiled last May. According to the company, the images generated by the tool are more realistic than the creations of the comparable DALL-E 2. Also would the tti generator better cope with ‘spatial relations, long texts, rare words and challenging assignments’. No public version of Imagen has been released so far. Google reported late last year that the image tool, in a stripped-down form, would become part of its ‘AI Test Kitchen’ applications.
