Rumor: TikTok is working on paywall
TikTok is said to be working on an option for creators on the platform to put videos behind a paywall. The move should convince creators to publish on the platform, where there is now limited money to be made.
Video creators can charge money for viewing certain videos, writes The Information. The site does not mention whether it is a one-time contribution or the possibility to subscribe to a creator. TikTok does not deny the development of a paywall, saying in a response that the company is “committed to finding new ways to provide a valuable experience for the community of creators on TikTok.”
In addition to the paywall, there would also be a new version of the Creator Fund, which pays creators of videos more than in the version of ten years ago. The company is also considering paying creators more for making longer videos. The current limit is ten minutes. TikTok became known and popular with short videos.
TikTok already has multiple ways for creators to make money, including distributing ad revenue around videos from certain creators. Many social media companies try to lure video or photo creators with money-making schemes.
