UWP version Dolphin emulator allows playing Wii and Gamecube games on Xbox
A Universal Windows Platform version of Dolphin has been released, an emulator for the Nintendo Wii and Gamecube. It makes playing emulated Wii and Gamecube games on Xbox Series S and X easier than it was before.
Developer SirMangler put the UWP version of Dolphin online last month and youtuber Modern Vintage Gamer made a video about it. According to him, the installation is much easier than with the RetroArch emulator, while the set-up is also a bit simpler. In addition, the performance is better because it is derived from a newer version of Dolphin.
You can install games on the Xbox’s internal storage, but it’s easier to do that on a USB stick. The configuration for the Xbox controller must also be included. Users can set the configuration for the Xbox controller in the desktop version of Dolphin on Windows and then copy that file to the USB stick to make it work on the Xbox.
The emulator achieves high frame rates at the 1440p resolution of the Xbox Series S, says Modern Vintage Gamer. This is not the case on older consoles such as the Xbox One X, according to the youtuber due to the outdated processor in that machine. With the One X, 15-25fps seems to remain.
