Nintendo may be working on an HD update for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for Wii U. Data from the backend of the Wii U eShop seems to indicate that. Nintendo has not yet made any statements about a possible remake.

On the servers of the Wii U eShop discovered a user named Octogirl an icon for Twilight Princess. The picture bears the name ‘The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess HD’. In addition, the game has been given a so-called Title ID in the list of Wii U titles on the eShop servers. It shows that the game currently only has a JAP label, which may indicate that the game will be released first on the Japanese eShop.

It wouldn’t be the first Zelda game to get a re-release from Nintendo. In the past, remasters, ports and 3d versions of The Wind Waker, Majora’s Mask, Ocarina of Time and more have been released. It is not clear how drastic the changes are that the possible HD version of Twilight Princess is undergoing. It is also not clear whether the game uses the motion controls of the Wii version, or the regular ones of the GameCube version.

At the same time, Nintendo is working on an all-new game in the Zelda franchise known only as ‘The Legend of Zelda’. Nintendo boss Eiji Aonuma reported that the game would not see the light of day in 2015, but that it will still be released for the Wii U. Whether this game will also be released for Nintendo’s upcoming NX console is unknown. Twilight Princess was released in 2006 for both the Nintendo GameCube and the Wii.
