Twitter closes at least 12 offices
Social media company Twitter is closing at least twelve offices worldwide and may want to expand to six offices in the future. That writes Business Insider based on sources within the company. It is unknown which offices will close exactly.
Some of the offices have already closed and Twitter plans to close several more in the coming weeks, writes Business Insider. A majority of offices in Europe are closing, as are offices in Mexico, India, Australia and South Korea, the publication reports. Employees had to leave the Singapore office local time on Wednesday night because Twitter failed to pay the rent, writes Casey Newton. The arrears of rent would have been paid by now.
In the future, Twitter may want to continue with six of its offices. In addition to the head office in San Francisco, there are offices in New York and Los Angeles in the US. Outside the US, this concerns the offices in London and Dublin in Europe and the office in the Japanese capital Tokyo. Twitter has not confirmed the information.
Closing offices would be part of the recent cost cuts. The new owner of the social media company, Elon Musk, has already laid off a large part of the staff since his acquisition in October.
