Rumor: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 will get 16,384 CUDA cores and 450W tbp
Well-known Nvidia leaker kopite7kimi has shared new possible specifications of the first GeForce RTX 40 video cards. Specifically, this concerns the alleged RTX 4090, 4080 and 4070. The first of those video cards are expected later this year.
Kopite7kimi, who regularly shared correct information about Nvidia GPUs in the past, publishes information on Twitter about the possible RTX 4090, RTX 4080 and RTX 4070. According to the leaker, the RTX 4090 will receive an AD102-300 GPU, which will be based on the Ada Lovelace architecture. The gpu must get 16,384 CUDA cores, which corresponds to 128 streaming multiprocessors. In addition, the video card would get 24GB of GDDR6X memory at 21Gbit/s and with a 384bit memory bus. That would correspond to a memory bandwidth of 1008GB/s. The total board power is expected to be around 450W.
According to kopite7kimi, the GeForce RTX 4080 will have an AD103-300 GPU with 10,240 CUDA cores spread over 80 SMSs. The video card gets 16GB of memory on a 256bit memory bus, but that may not be about faster GDDR6X modules. The leaker states that the video card may get GDDR6 memory at 18Gbit / s, but he or she questions that. For example, the current RTX 3080 has GDDR6X memory at 19Gbit/s. The tbp of the RTX 4080 would be 420W.
The GeForce RTX 4070 should also get an AD104-275 GPU with 7168 CUDA cores. In addition, the video card would get 10GB of GDDR6-18Gbit/s memory on a 160-bit memory bus. Earlier rumors stated that that video card would get 12GB of memory and a 192bit memory bus. The tbp of that card is expected to be around 300W.
Rumors have been circulating for some time about the upcoming RTX 40 series, which is expected later this year. For example, the cards are expected to get a much higher amount of L2 cache, which may also explain the allegedly slower memory speeds of the RTX 4080 and 4070. The Founders Editions are also expected to get a new PCIe Gen5 power connector.
According to previous rumors, Nvidia will release the first RTX 40 cards next month, but that has been postponed internally according to more recent reports. The cards are currently expected to appear at the end of the third or the beginning of the fourth quarter, writes tech website VideoCardz. Nvidia would first come up with an RTX 4090 and later release lower positioned video cards.
