Onyx has released a new version of its tablet with E Ink display. The Onyx Boox Tab X is a tablet with a 13.3″ screen, approximately an A4 size. The tablet runs on Android 11, but lacks some parts that the Tab Ultra predecessor did have.

Onyx has the Boox Tab X placed in his webshop for 880 dollars, or about 830 euros. The Tab X seems to be a successor to the Tab Ultra, the previous top model of the e-reader manufacturer. That was the largest tablet that Onyx offered at the time, but the screen has become considerably larger. Where the Tab Ultra still had a 10.3″ screen, the Tab X has one of 13.3″. The tablet also has support for a stylus and runs on Android 11. Onyx does not write whether and if so when it will upgrade the tablet.

The Tab X’s screen is a Mobius Flexible Carte 1250, made by E Ink, and has four refresh modes, according to Onyx. The higher it is, the higher the image quality. The screen has a resolution of 2200×1650 pixels, which equates to 207dpi. This means it has a higher resolution, but a lower dpi than its predecessor. The screen shows sixteen shades of gray.

On the inside, the Tab X has a quad-core processor from Qualcomm, although Onyx doesn’t say which one. The internal memory is 128GB, but there is no microSD slot on the e-reader. The Tab Ultra still had that. The tablet also has Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.0 on board. The battery is 6300mAh in size.

Particularly striking is the lack of the keyboard cover, which was still included as standard on the Tab Ultra. According to Onyx, users can still use a separate Bluetooth keyboard with the tablet. The Pen2Pro stylus is included, as is a protective case. Also missing is a camera. It was still on the older Ultra model, but the Tab X completely lacks that 16-megapixel camera.

The tablet has dimensions of 310 x 228 x 6.8mm. The device weighs 560g and comes in black only.
