Samsung Display has shown the Flex Hybrid, a screen with a foldable and an extendable part. The laptop-like device has a 10.5″ screen on the inside of the fold that can be extended to a 12.4″ screen when unfolded.

The company is not yet sharing many specs about the screen, but says that the OLED display has an aspect ratio of 4:3 when unfolded at 10.5″. The right screen part of the Flex Hybrid can then be extended, creating a 12.4″ screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio. The right half of the Flex Hybrid is thicker than the left half to accommodate the pull-out element.

Samsung Display has been showing foldable OLED screens more often in recent years, with which the company wants to show what kind of screens it develops and what is possible with foldable screens. This includes the Flex Slidable Solo and the Flex Slidable Duet, two foldable screens that Samsung showed earlier in September. The Solo has one retractable element, the Duet can unfold on both sides of the screen to turn a 13 to 14 “screen into a 17.3” screen. Samsung Display takes the two Slideable screens and the Flex Hybrid to the CES trade show. Whether and when the Flex concepts will become available to consumers is not clear.
