DICE wants to spend all his time on Battlefield and not on new projects
Gamemaker DICE will continue to focus on the Battlefield series and specifically Battlefield 2042 in the coming years. The new boss of the studio says that there is no time for new projects, such as a new Mirror’s Edge game.
So says Rebecka Coutaz in an interview with Gamesindustry.biz. Coutaz has been at the helm of DICE for six months, which released Battlefield 2042 in November. The focus will be on that game in at least the next three years, she says. “We’re just focusing on Battlefield 2042. There’s no time for anything else and this is what we want to do,” she replies when asked if there are any new projects coming up, like a new Mirror’s Edge game. “Within three years, we want to be the first-person shooter powerhouse that DICE should be.” Coutaz hopes that DICE will become a forerunner in first-person shooters in Europe and worldwide.
Coutaz admits in the interview that Battlefield 2042 was not good. “The release of the game was not as expected,” she says. “Our players and community were disappointed, but so was our developer team.” Since then, the studio has focused on bug fixes and new features, and said the game has improved enough to start work on DLCs and seasonal expansions.
