Arlo will end free image storage for various cameras next year
Arlo is discontinuing the free cloud storage feature for a number of products. Users of certain cameras and doorbells can review images for free for seven days, but that policy will change for many products in a year.
Arlo has updated the terms of use for all its products. It contains new end-of-life dates for certain products. It concerns eight different cameras and doorbells, the oldest of which was released in November 2014. Arlo says those devices will be end-of-life from January 1, 2024. For two products, the Gen 3 and Pro camera, that will already happen on April 1 of this year. When a device has reached end-of-life status, several functions disappear. The devices will no longer receive new firmware updates. E-mail notifications can also not be sent.
The most notable change, however, is that the free cloud storage feature disappears. Arlo users could also look back seven days of images without a paid subscription. They were stored at Arlo. Arlo always advertised that feature prominently on packaging and in marketing materials. From January 1, 2024, users must pay to review footage, or use an Arlo Base Station to store recordings locally.
