Meta’s Quest 2 headset is the first VR headset to ship more than ten million units worldwide, according to Counterpoint Research. That milestone was reached at the end of last year. 50 percent of all Quest 2s were delivered in the fourth quarter of 2020 and 2021.

By the end of 2021, the Quest 2 headset had been shipped 10.4 million times, reports Counterpoint. That’s almost four million more than Sony’s PlayStation VR headset, which is in second place. Next comes the HTC Vive, with 3.3 million deliveries. This is followed by four other headsets from Meta, including the Quest. This was ‘only’ delivered 2.1 million times.

70 percent of all Quest 2 shipments went to the United States and 20 percent went to Europe. According to Counterpoint, the Quest 2 is a popular tech gift. That’s why the headset was shipped so much during the holiday season at the end of the year.

Counterpoint does think that Meta will face more competition this year, including new headsets from DPVR and Pico. Since ByteDance acquired Pico, the company has invested heavily in the VR headset maker to create competitive products. Sony’s upcoming PS VR2 headset is also rumored to be released this year.
