Ubisoft is starting to transfer Stadia games to its own launcher for free
Ubisoft has begun adding games purchased on Stadia to their Ubisoft accounts as the Stadia service closes on January 18. It appears that the transfer will happen automatically for players who have linked their Ubisoft account to Stadia.
Users report that on Reddit, among others and Twitter. The process would be step-by-step; users report that some of their games have been released and some have not yet. The process apparently began on Friday and, at the time of writing, appears to be unfinished. Players can see the games appear in Ubisoft’s own PC launcher Ubisoft Connect.
Google announced at the end of September that it is pulling the plug on game streaming service Stadia. The money that players have put into the hardware and games of the platform, they get back from the internet giant. Yet Ubisoft gives the games as a gift on its own platform. However, according to the users in the linked Reddit post, the saves cannot be migrated for every game.
How the closure of Stadia is handled differs per publisher and developer. For example, Hitman developer IO Interactive offers to transfer the progression to a platform of your choice, but otherwise does not give the games away for free. Other studios say they have no plans at all.
