Intel retires Gemini Lake-generation Pentiums and Celerons

Intel has provided the Gemini Lake generation of Atom socs with end-of-life status. The company announced the processors in 2017 and released them as Celeron and Pentium Silver chips in the 4000 and 5000 series.

Intel has announced the final phase of support for the Gemini Lake socs in two Product Change Notification documents. These are the Celeron N4100, N4000 for laptops and tablets and the Celeron J4105, J4005 and J4115 for desktop systems. Intel will take orders from manufacturers for these chips until January 22, 2021 and the last delivery will take place no later than July 9, 2021.

The Pentium Silver N5000 for laptops, the Pentium J5005 for desktops and the Celeron N4000C are also retiring. Until October 23 this year, Intel will still take orders for these socs and the delivery will end on April 2.

The Gemini Lake generation of Atom-socs appeared in 2017 as a successor to Apollo Lake with, among other things, more cache memory. The Celeron and Pentium processors can be found in entry-level laptops, tablets and desktop systems. There is now a refresh of Gemini Lake with somewhat higher clock speeds and the Elkhart Lake generation is also on the way, with Tremont instead of Goldmond Plus cores and a more powerful gpu.
