Worms Rumble gets real-time battles and battle royale for 32 players
Team17 is working on a new game in the Worms series, where combat will take place in real-time for the first time. In Worms Rumble, up to 32 players fight each other. The game is out for the PlayStation 4 and on Steam. A beta of the PC version will start on July 15.
A trailer shows many familiar elements from the Worms games, such as levels consisting of platforms and weapons such as the holy grenade and the banana bomb. The new game is made in 3d, but uses a side view during gameplay.
The big difference with the classic Worms games is in the gameplay. Until now, games from the series have been turn-based, with Worms Rumble that is not the case. The game will have a deathmatch mode and two battle royale options, Last Worm Standing and Last Squad Standing.
Worms Rumble will be released later this year for PlayStation 4 and PC. The game will also be playable on the PlayStation 5 and there will be crossplay between all platforms. From July 15 to 20, developer Team17 will host a beta test on Steam.
The first Worms game appeared in 1995 and since then, including spin-offs, more than twenty games have appeared in the series. The last major release was Worms WMD in 2016. A release date of the new game has not yet been announced.
