Microsoft increases the maximum number of participants in Teams meetings from 250 to 300
Microsoft has increased the maximum number of participants that can join a meeting via Teams from 250 to 300. Testing was temporarily done with a maximum of 350 participants, but the new limit of 300 participants is now widely available.
Microsoft will announce the new limit on the Teams technical details page. Product Manager Mike Tholfson indicates on Twitter that the increase is available to users. Due to the increase, more people can call in to a Teams meeting than with competitor Google Meet. The maximum for the latter is 250 participants on the G Suite Enterprise subscription.
Zoom has been offering the option of video calling with large groups of people for some time now. With the Zoom Business plan, the maximum number of participants is also 300, but Zoom also offers Enterprise and Enterprise Plus, for calls with a maximum of 500 and 1000 participants respectively.
Video conferencing services have grown tremendously and are expanding due to the coronavirus pandemic. At the beginning of this year, the maximum number of participants in Teams meetings was still 100, in May that was increased to 250 participants. The new limit of 300 participants has not yet been implemented for subscriptions that Microsoft offers to governments, that will happen later.
