The Blender Foundation is developing Blender, an open source software package for 3D modeling, animation, rendering, post-production, interactive creation and playback. The many features, enhanced with screenshots and examples, are available this page for interested readers to read. Blender was used, among other things, to make the animation films Elephant’s Dream and Big Buck Bunny produced under a Creative Commons license.

The developers have been busy ironing out the source code over the past few months, thanks in part to the Apricot Game Project where the game Yo Frankie! was rolled out, leading to version 2.48 of Blender. The accompanying short announcement looks like this:

Its release time for version 2.48! This is a game engine heavy edition, with a large amount of BGE updates and new tools. There’s also plenty of non-game related updates and tools to keep everyone happy.
