Samsung 49″ gaming monitor with 240Hz panel will be released at the end of July for 1499 euros
Samsung will release its Odyssey G9 monitor at the end of July for a suggested retail price of 1499 euros. The screen has a 32:9 ratio, resolution of 5120×1440 pixels, curvature of 1000R, refresh rate of 240Hz and maximum brightness of 1000cd/m².
The Samsung Odyssey G9 is the first monitor that combines a strong curvature with a high resolution, high refresh rate and high maximum brightness. 49″ monitors with a curvature of 1800R are already on the market, but this new model has a curvature of 1000R, which corresponds to a circle with a radius of one meter.
The panel can display 95 percent of the dci-p3 color space, has a response time of 1ms according to the manufacturer and has FreeSync 2. This makes the monitor also G-Sync Compatible. The housing is finished in white and glossy, with a ring of RGB lighting on the back. There are five light effect options to choose from.
Samsung announced the Odyssey G9 at the beginning of this year at CES and announced the dollar price earlier this month. In the US, the screen costs $1700. The euro price is therefore lower than expected; converted with VAT, this would amount to about 1,817 euros.
Earlier, two Odyssey G7 monitors appeared. They also have a 1000R curvature and a 240Hz panel, but those are 16:9 models of 27″ and 32″ with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels and a lower peak brightness of 600cd/m². The Odyssey G7 variants cost 649 and 749 euros.
