Download Songbird for Android – v1.6

Songbird is an open source music player, based on Gecko, with versions mainly developed for Windows and Mac OS X. It is perhaps less known that a version for Android is also available. Version 1.6 was released on Tuesday. Songbird is being developed by Poti, short for ‘Pioneers of the Inevitable’. This group includes developers who were involved with Winamp and Yahoo Music Engine, among others. In this release we find, among other things, an option to see what music your friends are listening to and it can also play videos.

We’ve just put the discover (beta) feature out in today’s release. Now you can have a look at all the bands that your friends are into, and connect with the ones that you like too. Keep an eye on this part of the app, we’re adding some great new ways for you to connect to the artist that you love most, and find new ones too.
