Version 3.0 of Gnome has been released. Gnome is a comprehensive, easy-to-use open source desktop environment for operating systems belonging to the Unix family, such as Linux and the various BSD variants. The name is short for GNU Network Object Model Environment. Gnome consists of a desktop environment and a development platform for creating other applications, which can be integrated into the desktop environment. It is similar to the KDE SC in that regard.
New in version 3.0 is, among other things, an ‘activities overview’, which provides an overview of the tasks running on the computer, so that you can quickly switch between tasks. In addition, there is an integrated instant message system and improved notifications, and the file manager Nautilus and web browser Epiphany have been improved.
