SMPlayer is an open source media player that can work on different platforms. It plays a range of formats and supports various output drivers, such as X11, Xv, DGA, OpenGL, SVGAlib, fbdev, AAlib, and DirectFB. The program can also display images using hardware MPEG decoders, such as the Siemens DVB, DXR2, and DXR3/Hollywood+. SMPlayer is a media player that uses MPlayer in the background to display images, but also adds functionality of its own, such as YouTube support, automatic subtitle search, and skins to customize the appearance. Version 17.8

  • New audio filter for headphone optimization. This is the ffmpeg earwax filter. From the ffmpeg documentation:
    This filter adds ‘cues’ to 44.1kHz stereo (ie audio CD format) audio so that when listened to on headphones the stereo image is moved from inside your head (standard for headphones) to outside and in front of the listener (standard for speakers ).

Version 17.7

  • Add some options to configure the conversion of srt subtitles to vtt for Chromecast (Preferences -> Network -> Chromecast), like the position of the subtitles on screen.
  • Fix a crash that may happen in the playlist when trying to delete selected items.

Version 17.6

  • Possibility to convert automatically subtitles in srt format to vtt when playing on Chromecast.
