Denon introduces receivers with HDMI 2.1 for 4k120Hz throughput
Denon introduces four receivers that are equipped with HDMI 2.1. Thanks to this support, the receivers can be used for passthrough of 4k image at 120Hz or 8k video at 60Hz.
The 2020 Denon AVR X-series receivers are the AVR-X2700H, AVC-X3700H, AVC-X4700H and AVC-X6700H. According to the manufacturer, the integration of HDMI 2.1 makes the receivers suitable for gamers, who, in addition to the 4k120Hz pass through, can benefit from HDMI 2.1 functionality such as variable refresh rate to reduce frame tearing and auto low latency mode and quick frame transport. With allm, the television automatically switches to a low latency mode and quick frame transport should ensure low latency for the fastest possible display of frames.
In addition to passthrough for 8k video at 60Hz, the receivers can upscale HD and 4k images to 8k. The 2020 X series also supports eARC or enhanced audio return channel. It allows users to output uncompressed audio and audio in formats such as DTS:X and Dolby Atmos via an HDMI cable from the TV to the receiver.
The AVC-X6700H and AVC-X4700H support Dolby Atmos, Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization Technology, DTS:X, DTS Virtual:XTM, IMAX Enhanced and Auro-3D, among others. In addition, the AVC-X6700H can handle DTS:X Pro with support for up to 13.2 audio channels for 9.2.4 speaker configurations, for example. The DTS:X Pro support is not there yet: Denon will add it later this year via a firmware update.
As for HDR playback, support for HDR10+ and Dynamic HDR has been added. Like the previous generation of receivers, the new line has support for hdr10, hlg, Dolby Vision, 4:4:4 Pure Color subsampling and BT.2020 passthrough. The receivers can work together with Denon’s HEOS speakers and they support Apple AirPlay 2 and playback via Bluetooth. In addition, they can be controlled by voice, with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple Siri.
The AVR-X2700 will be released in September for 649 euros and will also be available in a DAB+ version for 679 euros. The AVC-X3700H will arrive in August for 1099 euros, the AVC-X4700H will appear in July for 1499 euros and the AVC-X6700H also arrives next month for 2499 euros.
