Samsung 990 Pro supports PCI Express 5 and pops up with PCI-SIG
PCI-SIG, the organization that oversees the PCIe standard, has listed new SSDs from Samsung that support the 5.0 standard, including the 990 Pro M.2. Earlier this month, some type numbers of Samsung SSDs also surfaced, which are probably also from the 990 Pro.
On the PCI-SIG . website Four Samsung SSD product IDs that meet the PCIe 5.0 standard have recently been released. One is the 990 Pro M.2 which appears to be getting a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface. This SSD, which has not yet been officially announced, was probably also noticed last month with Korean authorities and from the model numbers, MZ-V9P1T0 and MZ-V9P2T0, it was inferred that the 990 Pro will come in a 1TB variant and a 2TB variant.
It is currently unclear what read and write speeds the 990 Pro SSDs will achieve. Tech site Wccftech notes that Samsung’s first PCIe 5.0 SSD for servers, the PM1743, achieves 13GB/s of sequential read speeds. The sequential write speed of that SSD is 6.6GB/s.
