Windows 11 gets Taskbar Overflow feature to show more icons on taskbar

Microsoft is introducing a Taskbar Overflow feature in the most recent Insider build of Windows 11. The feature displays icons in a separate menu when the taskbar is full. It also makes it easier to share files with other PCs on a network.

The taskbar in Windows 11 automatically switches to overflow mode when the maximum number of icons is reached, writes Microsoft. When that happens, all the ‘overflow’ icons that normally no longer fit on the taskbar are displayed in a submenu on the right side of the taskbar. The feature supports several Windows features, including pinned apps and jump lists. Microsoft previously announced that it working on new taskbar features for Windows 11, including bringing the search bar back from Windows 10 and supporting notification badges in the Widgets menu.

Also new in the most recent Windows Insider build from the Dev channel is an AirDrop-like Nearby Sharing feature. It allows users to share files via the udp protocol with other Windows devices that are nearby and connected to the same private network. The share menu also makes it possible to upload files directly to OneDrive. The Microsoft Store is also getting an update that makes it easier to see prices for apps, games and movies. It also makes it easier to distinguish between different editions of a game.

The new features are in the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25163 from the Dev channel. At a later date, the features will be available to all Windows 11 users, but it is not known when exactly that will happen.
