Jabra introduces Elite 5 earplugs with active noise cancellation

Jabra has released its new Elite 5 earplugs. These earplugs come with active noise cancellation, Bluetooth 5.2 and an iP55 rating. They can last up to 9 hours on a single charge; with the case that becomes 36 hours. The Elite 5 earplugs cost 149 euros.

Jabra knocked on Qualcomm’s door for active noise cancellation and ordered the QCC3050 chipset there. That soc, together with the microphones on the earplugs, must adjust the active noise cancellation the Jabra Elite 5 to lift to a higher level. The Elite 5 series also supports a hybrid mode, HearTrough, in which ambient sound can be picked up by the microphones and transmitted into the user’s ear. Voice quality during phone calls would also be improved. Jabra has equipped each earplug with three microphones so that wind noise is better filtered out.

The Elite 5 gets 6mm drivers. The earplugs last up to 7 hours on a charge when the active noise cancellation is active. With the built-in battery of the case, this is 28 hours. If that function is turned off, the earplugs can last for 9 hours on a single charge. In combination with the case, that becomes 36 hours. The earphones support fast charging, because after 10 minutes of charging, you can listen to music again for 1 hour. The battery in the supplied case can also be charged wirelessly, or topped up via USB-C.

The Elite 5 earplugs received an IP55 rating, which means that they are dust and splash water resistant. The earbuds support SBC, AAC and the Qualcomm aptX codec and Bluetooth 5.2. According to Jabra, the Elite 5 line also supports Bluetooth Multipoint, allowing the earbuds to easily switch between 2 connected devices. Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair are supported, and there’s also an app with an adjustable equalizer that can help further adjust the earpiece sound. Jabra gave the Elite 5 earplugs a suggested retail price of 149 euros.
