Pixel Qi shows new 10.1″ screen with higher resolution
Display panel manufacturer Pixel Qi is showing a new 10.1″ panel at CES that uses its 3Qi technology, making it readable even in direct sunlight. The screen has a higher resolution and improved color reproduction.
The screen is a further development of the panel that was shown on Computex. Pixel Qi has managed to boost the resolution from 1024×600 to 1280×800 pixels. In addition, the color reproduction is also improved in the reflective mode with the backlight off. The test sample could display one percent of the ntsc gamut in that position, but in the final version Pixel Qi wants to boost this to five percent.
The Pixel Qi screens can be used with or without backlight. When the backlight is turned off, the display switches to a reflective mode and the power consumption drops by eighty percent, according to the manufacturer. In this position, the panel can be viewed very well in direct sunlight.
Pixel Qi has been showing its screen technology at trade fairs and expos for some time, but the technology has hardly been found in products until now. Only the Notion Ink Adam tablet was offered with a Pixel Qi screen. The company did not say in which products the technology will be used in the future.
