Intel acquires Wi-Fi hardware maker Rivet Networks
Intel has acquired Rivet Networks, a maker of Wi-Fi hardware. It is not known what Intel will pay for the acquisition, but the company has announced that the products will be included in the Intel portfolio.
Intel announced the acquisition on Thursday, but did not say under what terms the deal was agreed. After the acquisition, Rivet’s products will continue to exist, but will be part of the Intel portfolio. This means that the Rivet team will be integrated into the existing Wireless Solutions Group.
Rivet is known for, among other things, the Killer series of WiFi hardware. With Killer, Rivet focuses mainly on gamers, due to, among other things, low latency and the ability to prioritize certain traffic. The Killer brand name will remain after the acquisition, and will become part of Intel’s offering.
Both companies have been working together for some time. For example, last month the new E3100 series from Rivet, based on Intel nics, was released. Some time ago, the Killer Wireless-AC 1550 was released, with Intel taking over the production.
