Mozilla Thunderbird email client gets mobile app
The makers of open source email client Thunderbird are working on an app for smartphones. The interface of the program is also getting a major update. This interface and the app are the main priorities of the Thunderbird team right now.
It’s not yet clear which platforms the app will come to and when it will be released, but Thunderbird product manager Ryan Lee Sipes indicates on Twitter that there will be a version for smartphones soon. It may take a while before all ‘synchronization things’ are arranged, he reports.
The arrival of the app is the team’s second highest priority, says Sipes. First and foremost is improving the user interface and user experience. A major update has to be released for that, but that ‘will take some time’, said the product manager.
Thunderbird is a free email client that has been around since 2003 and is maintained by the Mozilla Foundation. The latest major release of the software for Windows, macOS and Linux is Thunderbird 91which appeared in August last year.
