Sony announces Xperia 1 IV and 10 IV smartphones
Sony has announced the Xperia 1 IV and 10 IV at its own digital event. The new most expensive smartphones from the Japanese manufacturer have minor improvements, but no major changes from their predecessors from last year.
The Xperia I IV Just like last year, it has a 6.5″ OLED screen with 21:9 aspect ratio, 4K resolution and a refresh rate of 120Hz. New is that the screen can be much brighter than last year’s and supports real-time HDR. the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
The rear cameras are three 12-megapixel sensors of different sizes and with different lenses in front. All cameras now have support for slow-motion at 120fps at 4K resolution, and all have autofocus that can focus on the eyes of people or animals, something Sony calls Eye AF.
The primary camera has a sensor with an optical size of 1/1.7″, approximately around 41 square millimeters. The ultra-wide-angle camera has a 16mm lens in 35mm equivalent, and a size of approximately 20 square millimeters. The camera with telephoto lens can take pictures from 85mm to 125mm, about 3x and 5x zoom relative to the primary camera.The lens has an aperture of f/3.5.The sensor is about 10 square millimeters.
This makes it the first Xperia camera with a telephoto lens that can zoom ‘real’ optically. This is done by sliding the sensor, but Sony has not said how that happens. Predecessor Xperia 1 III has a camera with a telephoto lens that can take pictures at 70mm and 105mm, but not in between.
The front camera has been upgraded and now also has a resolution of 12 megapixels, at a size of approximately 14 square millimeters and an optical size of 1/2.9″. The device is focused on live streaming and users can view the image on a external monitor.
The battery has a capacity of 5000mAh and wired charging can be done with 30W. Sony guarantees a sufficient capacity of the battery for three years. The software will receive three years of security updates and two major firmware upgrades to new Android versions. The device has a suggested retail price of 1399 euros and will be released in mid-June.
Sony Xperia 10 IV
The Xperia 10 IV is a millimeter narrower and shorter than its predecessor, measuring 153x67x8.3mm. The housing is 161g, making it a relatively compact phone. In that housing is a 6″ screen with 21:9 ratio and 2520×1080 pixels. The screen is brighter than that of its predecessor, according to Sony.
The soc is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695. That soc has a modem with 5G and is one of the cheaper socs with support for that network technology. The cameras have not changed in terms of hardware, although Sony has added software functions, such as hybrid stabilization and more dynamic range in videos. Optical image stabilization is only on the primary camera.
The phone has a 5000mAh battery. Sony does not say how fast it can charge. The software will also receive three years of security updates and two major firmware upgrades to new Android versions. The device costs 499 euros.
