Download Mandriva Linux 2006
The folks at Mandriva Linux have made the new 2006 release available to the general public, which was previously made available to subscribers. The new version is downloadable as a CD and DVD image for I586 and x86_64 systems. Linux kernel 2.6.12, GCC 4.0, KDE 3.4, Gnome 2.10, X.Org 6.9, and OpenOffice.org versions 1.1.5 and 2.0pre, among others, are included in this 2006 release.
Mandriva was created after Mandrakesoft acquired Brazilian Connectiva at the end of February and changed its name to Mandriva in early April. The Linux distribution Mandrakelinux was also renamed and is now known as Mandriva Linux. Under the hood, Mandriva Linux has not changed: the distro is very suitable for the novice Linux user due to the use of a graphical interface during installation and the wizards to configure the operating system.
