Game Studio Heart Machine Announces 3D Action RPG Hyper Light Breaker

Game developer Heart Machine announces indie game Hyper Light Breaker. The 3D action RPG is set in the same universe as Hyper Light Drifter from 2016, but is not a successor to that game. Hyper Light Breaker is set to release in Spring 2023 via Steam Early Access.

Unlike Hyper Light Drifter, the new game is three-dimensional instead of two-dimensional. However, the visual style of the game will be very similar to that of Hyper Light Drifter from 2016. The game takes place in the same universe as that game, but in a new world called Overgrowth. There, the Abyss King has to be defeated and the character can move around on the basis of, among other things, a hoverboard. According to the developer, Hyper Light Breaker will include a single player mode, as well as an online co-op mode. The game will be playable from spring 2023 through Steam Early Access. At the time of writing, it is not clear on which different platforms Hyper Light Breaker will be available.

In 2016, game studio Heart Machine released Hyper Light Drifter, a 2D action RPG that scored highly with reviewers for its pixel art style, in-game atmosphere, and storyline. The game has a Metacritic score of 88 and came out for PC, Linux, Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and iOS.
