Google is laying two sea cables that connect the Middle East with Europe and Asia
Google will install two submarine fiber optic cables in the Middle East. One of the two cables must make the connection to Southern Europe. The other fiber optic cable should provide better services in Asia. Both cables should be operational in 2024.
The Blue Submarine cable system will connect Israel to Italy, France and Greece. The Raman Submarine cable system is intended to provide a connection between the Southwest Asian countries of Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Oman, the African country of Djibouti and the South Asian country of India.
Both submarine links contain sixteen fiber optic pairs, but beyond that gives Google no details on capacity. According to the company, users of Google Cloud and other Google services in particular will benefit from “the increased capacity and reduced latency.” Members of the consortium behind these works will attempt to connect the two cables via land at a later date.
