27.7 million players attended a virtual Travis Scott concert in Fortnite

If you are not allowed to leave the house in corona time, you should watch your concerts elsewhere. VR and YouTube are all out; Fortnite is the new show location. More than 27 million players watched a Travis Scott concert there this week.

It’s not the first concert ever held in the hit shooter, but it’s by far the most popular. The makers write on Twitter that a total of 27.7 million players attended the free concert in the three days it was held. The game hosted five shows from April 23 to 25 by artist Travis Scott, whose huge avatar sang a number of songs. He played on a separate set in the style of his album Astroworld. The shows all lasted about ten minutes, but could not be heard live.

Epic Games says the first concert was the most popular. A total of 12.3 million players watched it. In total, players watched the event 45.8 million times.

Fortnite often experiments with live events in the game. Maker Epic tries to make the game a kind of Second Second Life, in which real artists can perform and shops can sell their goods digitally. Last year, a concert by DJ Marshmello was viewed 10.7 million times. Unlike Travis Scott’s concert, it was a live event.
