Just like with video, WhatsApp also lets users choose the quality of images
WhatsApp will allow users to share images in high or low quality, or to let the app automatically determine the quality based on the images. Last week it was revealed that this feature was coming to video sharing.
When uploading images, users will be presented with three options in the future: Auto, Best Quality, and Data Saver. WhatsApp is currently testing the feature in the WhatsApp Android app beta with version number 2.21.14.6, writes Wabetainfo.
The addition to the test version of the app for Android comes a week after an identical video file uploading feature was added. WhatsApp does not provide details about the three options. For example, it is not clear to what extent compression is applied and it is also unclear on what basis the app determines the choice for the automatic setting.
According to Wabetainfo, WhatsApp on Auto detects the best compression algorithm for specific images and applies this compression if the user has enabled Data Saver in Android.
