PocketBook and Onyx Boox announce color screen e-readers
E-reader manufacturers Pocketbook and Onyx Boox are going to release e-readers with a color screen of electronic ink this year. The PocketBook Color will be released in June for 200 euros and uses a 6″ E Ink screen with 4096 colors.
Onyx Boox presents its Wednesday poke2, an e-reader with Android 9, octacore-soc, 2GB ram and 32GB storage memory. On Twitter, the manufacturer indicates that there are also a color version from that e-reader. When it will be released and what it will cost is not yet known. Onyx Boox does not mention the screen used, but it is a 6″ color screen of electronic ink and it is likely that the manufacturer uses the same screen as PocketBook.
PocketBook announced the PocketBook Color last week. According to the manufacturer, that e-reader will have an E Ink Kaleido screen that can display 4096 colors and has a pixel density of 300ppi. E Ink, the manufacturer of screens that are used in almost all e-readers, has not yet announced anything about that screen. E Ink has been making color screens from electronic ink for some time, but until now these have hardly been used in consumer products.
PocketBook says it will announce the exact specifications of the color e-reader later this year. The appearance resembles that of the PocketBook Touch HD3, which has been on the market for a while. When the Onyx Boox Poke2 with color screen will be released is not yet known, the PocketBook Color will appear in June for a suggested retail price of 200 euros.
