The developers of nVidia have released a new set of beta drivers called ForceWare for the video cards equipped with a GeForce chip. According to the release notes all GeForce chips from the 6100 series up to an 8800 series are supported. The version number is listed at 101.41 and is only suitable for Windows Vista, both 32– if 64-bit. The long list of changes looks like this:

New Features:

  • NVIDIA SLI support for GeForce 6 and 7 series on DirectX 9 and OpenGL
  • Improved OpenGL performance
  • Improved NVDIA SLI performance at high resolutions

Resolved Single GPU Issues

    All GPUs

    • LCD Flat Panel Scaling is not functioning properly in the drivers and causes some panels to come up in 800×600 mode.
    • TV Out display is black and white.
    • NVIDIA Control Panel Desktop Color Settings are not saved after closing and then reopening the control panel.
    • NVIDIA Control Panel->Adjust Video Color Settings->Color control changes are not applied to the video.
    • NVIDIA Control Panel->Adjust Video Color Settings->Gamma Values ​​changes are not being applied.
    • Screen corruption appears on the DVI monitor when entering hibernate mode from standby mode in a linked sequence.
    • Areas within the Windows Media Player screen change colors.
    • Icons are overlapping the text in the NVIDIA Control Panel->Display Configuration page.
    • With Windows Aero glass enabled, the transparency effects on some windows are misapplied, resulting in horizontal bands of pixel corruption.
    • The NVIDIA Control Panel->Adjust Video Color Settings page does not save settings after rebooting or closing the panel.
    • The NVIDIA Control Panel application settings page cannot turn off V-Sync for OpenGL applications.
    • Colors in WMV HD videos appear corrupt after increasing the video gamma value.
    • NVIDIA Control panel “Change Flat Panel Scaling” page does not work correctly.
    • The desktop shrinks when the resolution is set to 800×600.
    • TVs connected to the S-Video are identified as HDTVs in the NVIDIA Control Panel.
    • NVIDIA Cascades demo has some sparkle artifacts.
    • Battlefield 1942–There are white bars at the top and bottom of the main menu, and the cross hair does not appear during gameplay.
    • Madden 2007– the screen freezes while playing the game, although the game continues to run (as evidence by sounds, etc.).
    • Galactic Civilizations Dark Avatar–the system hangs during the game.
    • Quake4 suffers a drop in performance and crashes intermittently when symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) is enabled.
    • The Lord Of Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth2–the introductory video stutters.
    • GRAW2– shadows do not behave correctly.

    GeForce 8 Series GPUs

    • GeForce 8800 GTX/GTS: Display does not resume from S3 or S4 suspend mode.
    • GeForce 8800 GTX: When the Windows Aero glass is enabled, TV/DVD/video playback using Media Center is degraded.
    • GeForce 8800 GTX/GTS: Brief flashes of corruption appear on the screen when logging in from CTRL-ALT-DEL or when UAC dialog boxes appear.
    • GeForce 8800 GTX: The NVIDIA Control Panel fails to apply changes in the TV format, even though the interface reflects the change.
    • GeForce 8800 GTX: The NVIDIA Control Panel->Video & Television->Change HD Format feature is available with only one of the DVI ports.
    • GeForce 8800 GTX: The NVIDIA Control Panel takes between 19-24 seconds to open.
    • GeForce 8800 GTX: The system does not resume from S3 mode.

    • GeForce 8800 GTX: Flight Simulator X– There is corruption in the Free Flight preview pane when application antialiasing is enabled.
    • GeForce 8800 GTX: Warcraft III–flashing corruption appears during the game.

    • GeForce 7 Series: Video is corrupt when fast forwarding through HD DVD or BluRay titles using PowerDVD.
    • GeForce 7 Series, GeForce 6 Series: Condemned Criminal Origins–Performance drop.
    • GeForce 7900 GTX: The NVIDIA Control Panel->Change Display Configuration page task area disappears after changing the color quality in single display mode.
    • GeForce 7800 GTX: The NVIDIA Control Panel->Video & Television task area disappears after switching between the Home and Back navigation icons.
    • GeForce 7300 GT: Changes in the Adjust Desktop Color Settings brightness, contrast, and gamma values ​​are not saved after closing and reopening the NVIDIA Control Panel.
    • GeForce 7300 GT: Changes to the HDTV resolution are not preserved across system restarts.
    • GeForce 7300 GS: The NVIDIA Control Panel stops responding after the user tries to change the HD format under Dualview mode.
    • GeForce 7300 GS: Medieval2 Total war Demo–In-game antialiasing options do not appear.

    GeForce 6 Series GPUs

    • GeForce 6800: There is no video while playing MPEG2 files in Window Media Player after resuming from Standby.
    • GeForce 7 Series, GeForce 6 Series: Condemned Criminal Origins– Performance drop.

Resolved SLI Mode Issues

    All GPUs

    • [SLI]: When disabling SLI mode from the NVIDIA Control Panel, no dialog box appears to prompt the user to reboot the system. A reboot is required to properly disable SLI mode in the driver.
    • [SLI]: After SLI mode is enabled, a code 43 error occurs when trying to reinstall the driver.
    • [SLI]: The Windows Sidebar and other applications hang.
    • [SLI]: Civilization 4–there is flickering in the game.
    • [SLI]: Serious Sam 2–performance drops when SLI mode is enable.
    • [SLI]: Call of Duty 2–there is no performance gain with SLI mode enabled.
    • [SLI]: Far Cry–High dynamic range (HDR) rendering works incorrectly with SLI mode enabled.
    • [SLI]: Guild Wars–performance drop in some scenes with SLI mode enabled.

    GeForce 8 Series GPUs

    • GeForce 8800 GTX, [SLI]: The screen blacks out after a resolution reset.
    • GeForce 8800 GTX, [SLI]: X3 Reunion–the NVIDIA driver crashes with 16xQAA enabled at 2560×1600 resolution.
    • GeForce 8800 GTX, [SLI]: FEAR–starting the game several times causes the system to hang at the first splash screen.
    • GeForce 8800 GTX, [SLI]: FEAR–performance drops with SLI mode enabled.

    GeForce 7 Series GPUs

    • GeForce 7800 GTX, GeForce 6600/6800, [SLI]: Far Cry–Bugcheck error occurs when SLI AA is enabled.

    • GeForce 6100/6150: Changes to the NVIDIA Control Panel->Adjust Video Color setting are not getting applied.
