Baldur’s Gate, the well-known role-playing game that was recently remade for the PC, is now also available for the iPad. This version, like the other versions of the remake, contains the necessary extras compared to the original game.

The 1998 RPG Baldur’s Gate, much loved by many PC gamers, has been released in a complete iOS remake and is fully playable with the iPad’s touchscreen. Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition for iOS is not only equipped with various improvements compared to the original game, it also uses an improved version of the Infinity Engine built specifically for tablets. In addition to the adventure from the original game and the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion, it includes a new adventure titled The Black Pits, as well as three new characters. With the iPad version, in-app purchases are also possible in the form of player portraits and voices for the characters. The iPad version also supports Game Center in iOS so that the gamer can keep in touch with friends and play together.

The original version of Baldur’s Gate appeared in 1998 and meant the big breakthrough for game developer BioWare, now known for games like Mass Effect and the mmo Star Wars: The Old Republic, which was released last year. Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition was created by Overhaul Games, a team of ex-Bioware employees that has so far focused solely on making classic game remakes.

Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition is available in the iTunes Store for 8.99 euros. The game requires iOS 6 and is therefore only suitable for the iPad 2 and the iPad with Retina display.
