AMD introduces several new Radeon RX 6000 GPUs for laptops. The company comes with a new RX 6850M XT flagship with higher clock speeds and faster memory, in addition to some new 6nm GPUs and more efficient RX 6000S laptop chips.

AMD comes, among other things with its first two 6nm laptop graphics cards. These are produced at TSMC and get a Navi 24-gpu. A Radeon RX 6500M gets 16 compute units and 4GB GDDR6 memory with a memory bandwidth of up to 289GB/s. AMD reports that the RX 6500M will have a TGP of 50W. The lower-positioned Radeon RX 6300M in turn gets 12 compute units, 2GB GDDR6 memory and a lower game clock. The tgp is also lower, at 25W. Laptops with these video cards will appear in the first quarter of this year.

In addition, AMD is introducing three new Radeon RX 6x50M graphics cards. The GPUs are also based on the RDNA 2 architecture and are produced on TSMC’s 7nm node. The highest-ranking model, the Radeon RX 6850M XT, is intended for 1440p gaming and features 12GB of GDDR6 memory and 40 compute units, just like the current Radeon RX 6800M. The RX 6850M XT does have a higher game clock of 2463MHz and faster 18Gbit/s memory modules, for a total bandwidth of 432GB/s. The chip also has a higher TDP of 165W.

AMD also shows a Radeon RX 6650M XT and RX 6650M. The former has 32 compute units, while the regular RX 6650M has 28. The two chips both have a TGP of up to 120W and offer 8GB of GDDR6 memory with a bandwidth of up to 256GB/s. Laptops with these video cards will also be available in the first year.

Efficient Radeon RX 6000S GPUs for thin laptops

AMD also introduces its Radeon RX 6000S video cards for laptops. These are also produced at 7nm. They are low-power variants of the current Radeon RX 6000M GPUs, with lower clock speeds and therefore also lower TGPs. According to AMD these gpus are intended for use in thin and light laptops. In its press conference, the company talks about “efficiency-boosting technologies” among other things, although it does not go into further detail. The company seems to be positioning these GPUs against Nvidia’s Max-Q GPUs for laptops, which are also focused on efficiency.

The company comes with three Radeon RX 6000S variants. The RX 6800S gets 32 compute units, 8GB GDDR6 and a game clock of up to 1975MHz. The Radeon RX 6700S has 28 compute units, 8GB of memory and a 1890MHz game clock. The Radeon RX 6600S is similar to that model, but has 4GB of memory and a slightly lower clock speed. The RX 6000S cards are all geared towards 1080p gaming. Laptops with these GPUs will also appear in the first quarter of 2022, AMD reports.
