Rumor: Apple Watch sports version has bigger screen and bigger battery
Apple is working on an “extreme sports” version of its smartwatch, according to financial news agency Bloomberg. Compared to the regular version, this variant has a larger screen and a larger battery. In addition, it is made of different materials.
Apple Watch Series 7
The screen comes out at almost 2″ at a resolution of 410×502 pixels, Bloomberg writes. That is slightly higher than the 394×484 pixels of the Watch Series 7 and expected also of the large version of the regular Watch Series 8. If the screen sharpness remains the same at 329 pixels per inch, it is a screen of about 1 .97″ with an area of 12.2 square centimeters, 7 percent more than the 11.4 square centimeters of the Watch Series 7.
Apple would use that extra space to show additional fitness data, the financial news agency reported. In addition, the clock would be made of other materials. The screen would have reinforced glass to prevent the display from breaking. Instead of aluminum it would be made of a stronger metal. The larger battery should allow for longer workouts. It is not clear how much capacity that battery has.
The manufacturer usually presents its new clocks in September. There have been rumors for some time about a ‘rugged’ version of the Apple Watch, aimed at extreme sports. Until now, the manufacturer makes two editions a year: a smaller and a larger version.
