Kotaku: Rockstar puts remasters Red Dead Redemption and GTA IV on hold
Rockstar Games has reportedly halted development of the Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto IV remasters for the time being. After the controversy surrounding Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, the developer would focus on the new GTA for the time being.
The developer has been planning for years to make remasters of the original Red Dead Redemption and GTA IV from 2010 and 2008 respectively. While the plans haven’t been scrapped completely, Rockstar is said to forgo new remasters for now, reports Kotaku. The respective unannounced remasters would be released after the next big Grand Theft Auto game at the earliest.
Around the release of the criticized remaster trilogy, Kotaku learned that Rockstar would make a decision about any Red Dead Redemption and GTA IV remasters based on the trilogy’s sales and receipts. Although the reception by critics and fans alike was particularly bad, the bundle turned out to be surprisingly well sold.
The deletion of the remasters was initially thought of by the generally well-informed leaker Tez2 releasedafter which Kotaku was able to confirm the rumor with his own sources.
Red Dead Redemption (2010) and Grand Theft Auto IV (2008) are significantly less old than Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
