Nvidia GTX 1630 budget video card is much slower than AMD Radeon RX 6400
Nvidia has officially unveiled its GTX 1630 GPU. The video card gets a 12nm Turing GPU with 512 CUDA cores, 4GB GDDR6 memory and a 64bit memory bus. Reviews show that the card is much slower than the Radeon RX 6400.
Broadly speaking, the construction of the GTX 1630 is the same as that of the GTX 1650, but the new budget model has a lot fewer CUDA cores. The GDDR6 memory has a capacity of 4GB and a speed of 12Gbit/s, just like the fastest versions of the GTX 1650. However, Nvidia uses a memory bus of 64bit instead of 128bit, which halves the memory bandwidth. Because of that choice, the GTX 1630 has even less memory bandwidth than the 2016 GTX 1050 Ti.
GTX 1630 performance according to TechPowerUp
Nvidia doesn’t list a suggested retail price, and manufacturers who have announced GTX 1630 cards don’t either. TechPowerUp has a review of the Gainward GTX 1630 Ghost published and the site says it has “heard” that the price will be around $150. Colorful presents a model for $169† At the time of writing, there are GTX 1650 cards in the Pricewatch from around 200 euros. The older GTX 1050 Ti is also still offered, for prices from around 180 euros.
The review of TechPowerUp shows that the GTX 1630 is considerably inferior to the Radeon RX 6400 and RX 6500 XT. These are the recent budget cards from AMD that are available via Pricewatch for 189 and 205 euros respectively. The RX 6500 XT is on average twice as fast as the GTX 1630 in 1080p resolution; the RX 6400 is 57 percent faster. Nvidia’s own GTX 1650 is 61 percent faster than the new GTX 1630 budget variant.
The performance of the GTX 1630 is insufficient to smoothly run demanding, modern games in 1080p resolution. For example, in the TechPowerUp review, the card achieves 23 fps in Elden Ring, 16 fps in Forza Horizon 5 and 36 fps in F1 2021. However, the GTX 1630 is about three times as fast as the GT 1030 2GB budget video card, which is currently for sale from 100 euros. is.
Among other things Inno3D† palit and EVGA announced GTX 1630 video cards.
