Type number in firmware indicates new Nintendo Switch model
A model number of unannounced Nintendo hardware has been found in version 10.0.0 of the Nintendo Switch firmware. It seems that this model will control a second screen.
The type number is ‘nx-abcd’, reports Mike Heskin, which had previously found clues to the Switch Lite early in the firmware. There are no other models with ‘d’ in the name; the current Switch is ‘nx-abca2’, the Switch Lite is ‘nx-abcc’. There is also an ‘nx-abcb’, but it has not yet been released. It’s called Copper or Calcio, according to a user on the Resetera forum.
According to Heskin, three of the five new “dram profiles” are in the firmware for this device and may be able to drive a second display. This could be a Switch with the shape of a Nintendo DS or something else that requires a second screen, such as VR glasses.
The Switch came out in 2017, last year the Switch Lite was added. There have been rumors about a more powerful model for some time, but it has not yet been announced or published.
