ASRock releases socket 939 motherboard with 785G chipset
ASRock has a socket 939 motherboard equipped with a current generation chipset. The 785G chipset, including HD 4200-igp, works together with an SB710 southbridge. However, Socket 939 CPUs have been out of production for quite some time.
Hardware manufacturer ASRock has released a modern motherboard, with an already outdated socket. Socket 939 CPUs are no longer in production and if individual copies can be found at all, the prices are higher than for comparably performing CPUs. Despite this, ASRock rested the de 939A785GMH128M out with the 785G northbridge in combination with an SB710 southbridge. Since socket 939 CPUs can only handle DDR memory, there are four memory slots, where DDR memory with a maximum speed of 400MHz can be inserted, in dual-channel mode.
The ATI Radeon HD 4200-igp has 128MB of DDR3 memory and provides a DVI, a VGA and an HDMI output. Furthermore, the 785G chipset has a PCI-e 2.0 x16 slot. The southbridge provides five SATA ports, an e-Sata port and four ready-to-use USB ports and three USB headers. A gigabit LAN port and a 7.1 sound chip take care of the rest of the functionality. ASRock probably targets old s939 users looking to build an htpc. It is not yet known what the motherboard will cost.
