Complaints about defective PlayStation 4 consoles continue to grow
The number of complaints about defective PlayStation 4 consoles continues to grow on the PlayStation forum of Sony and in customer reviews on Amazon. Two problems are discussed. Sony states that it concerns a small number of broken consoles.
on Amazon is a notable number of customers who give the console the lowest rating, as a significant portion of them deal with a broken console. In some cases, the PS4 will show a blue blinking LED, while the console will refuse service. This message is already called the ‘blue pulsating light of death’. Other gamers who have bought the new Sony console report a red LED flashing. Again, the console refuses service, possibly if consequence of an error in the HDMI connection. These notifications can also be read on Sony’s PlayStation forum.
In response to the issues reports Sony that only a “handful” of people have reported problems. It would therefore concern a number of ‘isolated incidents’. The number would fall below the 0.4 percent defective consoles that the company has taken into account when introducing a new game console. Sony, that claims that it has sold more than 1 million PS4s in the US in 24 hours promises to continue to monitor the matter closely and can’t pinpoint a clear cause yet.
Electronic Arts briefly stated that the 1.50 firmware update for the console would cause the problems. This update would cause stability issues in all PS4 games. However, EA later retracted its statement for unclear reasons.
