Asus uses Liquid Metal thermal paste in ROG gaming laptops with Intel CPUs

Asus uses Liquid Metal thermal paste in its new Republic of Gamers laptops equipped with Intel Comet Lake-H processors. According to the manufacturer, this results in temperatures that are 10 to 20°C lower than with regular thermal paste.

Asus uses Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut Liquid Metal for the new gaming laptops. This thermal paste is also available separately and is used by overclockers, among others. The material is applied by machine and the manufacturer demonstrates this on its site and in a video. In the video you can see that only the cpu is provided with Liquid Metal, the gpu chip is not.

According to Asus, using the thermal paste with the new Intel processors results in temperatures that are 10 to 20°C lower than with any other solution. The manufacturer states that all processors benefit from it, but its own research would have shown that the new Intel processors benefit the most.

The Comet Lake-H processors that Intel introduced last week achieve high turbo speeds, but that is only possible if the TDP is significantly increased. For example, the top model, the Core i9-10980HK, goes up to 5.3GHz, but for that the power limit has to be increased to 135W. This allows two cores to achieve that speed. The temperature will probably rise considerably.

Asus is also releasing ROG gaming laptops with AMD’s new Ryzen 4000 processors. The Liquid Metal paste is not used for this. Those CPUs are made at 7nm and are therefore more economical, which benefits heat development.
