9to5Mac discovers widget references in iOS 14 code
The upcoming iOS 14 may have the option to place widgets on the home screen. The function looks even more extensive than the existing widgets on iPadOS: these could also be moved.
The information comes from 9to5Mac, which does note that the feature is in development and so there is currently no guarantee that we will have widgets in iOS 14 in the future. The ability to place widgets is one of the biggest differences between Android and iOS. The position will be given the working title ‘Avocado’. iOS 14 is expected to be released in September, although the coronavirus may still have an impact on this.
At the same time, 9to5Mac reveals via a tipster that more extensive options for wallpapers are being worked on. iOS default wallpapers are divided into categories to make them easier to find. Those are sections like Classic Stripes, Earth & Moon and Flowers.
There are also options for wallpapers specific to the home screen: a dynamic gradient based on the wallpaper, a single color based on the wallpaper, black, or the same wallpaper. 9to5Mac argues that these options are a good addition to widgets: something relatively simple like a gradient prevents a home screen from becoming visually crowded with widgets.
