Microsoft comes with fix for quick resume issue for some games on Series X and S
Microsoft says that a solution is in the works to resolve the issues with the quick resume function. This Series X and S feature works flawlessly on the vast majority of games, but issues may arise with some games optimized for the new consoles.
Microsoft, through Jason Ronald, the director of project management, has let them know that some ‘optimized titles have been discovered where issues can occur’. For those specific titles, the quick resume function is temporarily disabled. Ronald says that a fix is being worked on quickly, although it is not yet clear how quickly it will be ready. He also does not say exactly which titles are involved. According to him, the function is ‘fully operational’ with thousands of titles.
Quick resume is one of the distinctive features of the new Xbox Series X and S consoles. The function makes it possible to switch between games very smoothly, so that players can immediately pick up the thread again in-game. In a few seconds, the exact state of a game session is saved and that of another game loaded, after which you can continue playing exactly from where you left off. About five different games remain active in the console’s memory.
A somewhat similar feature was already available with the Xbox One, although it is significantly less advanced. Via the instant on mode it is possible to return directly to a status of a game or app, but there is no quick switching between games and it is only possible with a single game. The PlayStation 5 does not have a quick resume function like the new Xbox consoles have.
