AMD to start retailing Ryzen 5000G apus with Vega GPU later this year
AMD has announced the Ryzen 5000G line of apus with Vega GPU. These will initially only appear in OEM systems, but will also be available separately to consumers later this year.
AMD has the Ryzen 5000G series of APUs, codenamed Cezanne, produced by TSMC at 7nm. These are chips with up to Zen 3 cores and Vega 8 GPUs and with support for 24 PCIe 3.0 lanes and DDR4-3200 ram. This means that the apus should perform better than the previous 4000G apus, or the Renoir generation, which was based on Zen 2. The instructions per clock performance of Zen 3 is about 19 percent higher than Zen 2. The new line can also have a larger amount of L3 cache, which the integrated GPU can also benefit from.
The 5000G generation still has Vega 8 graphics, just like the 4000G APUs. Graphical improvements would then be largely due to the increased amount of cache and faster memory interface. Manufacturers can choose how to set the tdp, from 45W to 65W. In addition, slightly more economical GE models of the apus appear, with a tdp of 35W.
The APUs should appear in manufacturers’ PCs this quarter, including systems from Dell and HP. Later this year, the chips should also appear on the shelves for DIY systems, reports AnandTech, among others, but the prices are still unknown.
