Valve to register more VR headsets for Steam Survey
Valve is expanding the number of VR headsets the company counts for its Steam Survey, to include wireless models, lesser-known types and the PlayStation VR. This should give a more accurate picture of the amount of VR headsets in use.
SteamVR will register every VR headset that has been connected to a system in the past month, either wired or wireless, for the Steam Survey. That is what Valve promises to RoadtoVR. Until now, only the VR glasses were kept that were linked via USB at the time the data was collected.
The expansion should give a more detailed picture of the amount of VR headsets that Steam users have. The current Steam Survey states that in February 1.01 percent of Steam users have a VR headset. Due to the adjustments, that percentage will increase, Valve expects. The company has already made some changes, which now shows, for example, that 0.05 percent of Steam users have gotten the Sony PlayStation VR working with SteamVR through a work-around. The Pimax 5K Plus has also been added to the list.
According to RoadtoVR, the Steam Survey is one of the few platforms to transparently display the use of VR headsets, helping to spot trends in virtual reality.
