AVM has released new firmware for its AVM FRITZ!Box 5490. The 5490 is a broadband router, access point up to and including 802.11ac and dect base station for up to six handsets in one. Furthermore, the device has two USB 3.0 connections, with which a printer or external storage capacity can be shared on the network, and it is possible to connect an active fiber optic connection (AON). Reverting to the original firmware is always possible; so make sure you have a backup. Updating the firmware can be done from the user interface yourself, but you can also download separately. The new firmware includes Fritz!OS 7.29 and brings the following improvements.
Internet:
- Improved: List of trusted certification authorities updated
- Improved: When internet access to storage media via FTP/FTPS is enabled, the randomly preselected port number is displayed
telephone:
- Fixed: Restricted availability by telephone when using telephony via IPv6
- Improved: Encrypted telephony more robust against lost connections
- Improved: Enhanced interoperability for use of encrypted telephony
- Change: Necessary adaptation to changed demands for authentication with Google (Google telephone book and calendar)
- Improved: Better interoperability for CardDAV-based online telephone contacts
WiFi:
- Improved: Better stability
USB:
- Improved: compatibility with MacOS 12.0 “Monterey”
- Improved: compatibility with several older devices (printers, scanners)
- Fixed: No network drive connection (SMB) was possible with macOS Big Sur Version 11.3
